Esta vez vamos a explorar el valle del Jarama en su parte más alta, hasta su nacimiento. Dejamos el coche en la entrada al Hayedo de Montejo, y cogemos la pista que sube por la ladera tras cruzar el puente sobre río.
This time we're going to explore the Jarama valley in its highest part, towards its source. We leave the car at the entrance of the Montejo Beech Forest, and we follow the path which ascends up the slope after crossing the bridge over the river.
En frente tenemos el famoso hayedo de Montejo, y comprobamos que en realidad no es un hayedo, sino un bosque mixto de robles y hayas.
Opposite we can see the famous Montejo beech forest, and we realize that in fact it is not a beech forest, but a mixed forest of oak trees and beech trees.
Seguimos el camino que remonta el valle bajo la sombra de robles y pinos.
We follow the path up the river under the shade of oaks and pine trees.
Nos adentramos en el boscoso valle. Predominan los robles y algunas hayas, distinguibles por su verde más intenso.
We go deeper into the wooded valley. Oak trees are the most abundant, accompanied by some beech trees, which are distinguished by their intense green.
El camino acaba en una zona de colmenas, y bajamos hacia el río. Ambiente fresco y húmedo bajo la sombra de los abedules.
The path ends up in an beehives area, and we descend to the river. A cool and humid atmosphere under the shade of the birch trees.
A lo largo del valle encontramos grandes y robustos robles aislados junto a otros mucho más jóvenes. Supervivientes de épocas remotas que despiertan nuestra admiración.
Along the valley we find huge and robust isolated oaks next to much younger ones. Survivors of far off times, they are worthy of admiration.
También encontramos viejos tejos dignos de admiración.
We also find ancient yew trees worthy of admiration.
Finalmente llegamos a la parte alta del valle, al lugar donde nace el río Jarama. Ha sido una ruta dura en la que hay que seguir las difusas sendas que crean las vacas, y que ha puesto a prueba nuestra habilidad cómo rastreadores y nuestra fortaleza física.
Finally we get to the highest part of the valley, to the source of river Jarama. It's been a hard route in which you have to follow the difused cows trails. It has put to a test our skills as trackers and our physical strenght.
